Los Angeles police have arrested a man they accused of throwing a rock or a cement brick through the windows of several stores in Canoga Park and Woodland Hills since Saturday, Jan. 6.

A 64-year-old man was taken into custody at around 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, on Victory Boulevard, not far from where they said he smashed the windows of several businesses.

The smashed windows at three stores in the area of 20900 Victory Boulevard were first discovered at around 3 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6. At each store, police found either a rock with writing on it, or a brick.

LAPD said at least two of those Woodland Hills incidents are being investigated as possible hate crimes: The owners of these stores are Jewish, and they had mezuzahs displayed outside.

On Monday, Jan. 8, four stores in the 6800 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Canoga Park were attacked in a similar way — rocks with writing on them were thrown through the windows of businesses including an In-N-Out, a tire shop and a paint store.

“The rocks recovered had ‘Glory’ and ‘Pay Up’ written on them,” police said.

Police said the man was suspected of both strings of crimes.

When he was arrested, the suspect was already wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, police said. He was booked into the LAPD’s Van Nuys jail on $5,000 bail.
