Did you know that every year, over 1.3 billion pumpkins end up in our landfills after Halloween? This is a problem because when pumpkins – or any organic waste – are thrown out with the trash, they slowly decompose and release harmful methane gas. Methane is one of the most harmful greenhouse gasses to our climate, which is why the State of California now requires that every city in California offer organic waste collection to its residents.
If you still have your pumpkin from Halloween, or if you just want to learn more about composting organic waste, come by the Great Pumpkin Bash Sunday, November 5, from 10AM – 2PM at Pan Pacific Park.
Pan Pacific Park
7600 Beverly Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90036
It’s going to be a fun-filled day of activities, including a Pumpkin Strike Zone presented by the LA Dodgers, face-painting for kids, bounce houses, free bike repairs, and electronic waste collection. We’ll have gardening and composting workshops, and freebies like compost kitchen pails and trees.
